Wintry weather returns next week in Metro Detroit

Highs will be in the lower 40s on Sunday

The 60-degree weather is gone for a while in Metro Detroit, but temperatures are still hovering above normal.

It feels noticeably cooler after reaching 64 degrees in Detroit on Friday, which shattered the old record of 56 degrees from 1966 and 2001.

Still warm from Friday, temperatures peaked in the mid 40s to mid 50s early Saturday morning at Detroit Metro Airport.

Sunday

The mostly cloudy skies will stay over much of the region on Sunday, but there will be a few periods of partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the lower 40s. Westerly winds will be around 5 mph.

Those clouds will start clearing out during the evening. Sunday night’s mostly clear skies will help to allow temperatures to fall to the mid 20s.

Monday

Clouds will still be limited on Monday due to a high-pressure system that will center itself over Southeast Michigan. Under partly cloudy skies, highs will reach the lower 40s in the afternoon. Lows will fall to the mid to upper 20s.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather conditions will be similar for both Tuesday and Wednesday with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Highs will be in the mid 30s to 40 degrees. People with Valentine’s Day plans that extend past midnight into early Thursday morning may encounter a few rain showers.

Thursday through Saturday

Rain and snow showers will be in the area on Thursday, a few sprinkles or flurries will be possible on Friday, and scattered lake-effect snow showers will try to make their way into Southeast Michigan on Saturday. Temperatures will be near normal next weekend.

Metro Detroit’s normal highs over the next several days are 34 to 35 degrees and the normal lows are 20 to 21 degrees.
