Could winter finally be done with us?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their monthly weather outlook for April last week. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on March 21, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid for the entire month of April.

Michigan temperature outlook for April 2024

  • The NOAA outlook calls for a 60-70% chance for all of Michigan to see above average temps, meaning there’s a good chance we’ll see warmer-than-average weather for April, along with the entire Great Lakes region and Pacific Northwest.
    • The average high temp in Detroit on April is 58 degrees.

Michigan precipitation outlook for April 2024

  • The NOAA outlook shows normal to 40% chances to see below average precipitation in April for most of Michigan. The further north, the better chance to see below average rain for the month. Closer to the Michigan-Ohio border, chances are closer to normal to see average precipitation.
  • The US South, extending into Florida, has higher chances to see above average rain in April.
    • Detroit averages about 3.26 inches of rain in April
