April has arrived but is it officially bringing spring weather along with it?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their monthly weather outlook for April on Sunday. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on March 31, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid for the entire month of April.

Michigan temperature outlook for April 2024

  • The NOAA outlook calls for a 60-70% chance for all of Michigan to see above average temps, meaning there’s a good chance we’ll see warmer-than-average weather for April, along with the entire Great Lakes region and Pacific Northwest.
    • The average high temp in Detroit on April is 58 degrees.

Michigan precipitation outlook for April 2024

  • The NOAA outlook shows A 33-40% chance the southern half of Lower Michigan, from Kalamazoo to Detroit and into the lower Thumb region will see above average precipitation in April.
  • The outlook issued 10 days prior showed the opposite, so that’s the update for the Metro Detroit area.
    • Detroit averages about 3.26 inches of rain in April
