Rounds of rain in Metro Detroit this week: What to expect

Most of week to remain dry

4Warn Weather – Layer up this Monday morning! A frost advisory was in effect for all of Southeast Michigan until 8 a.m.

Otherwise, we’ll have a sunny start to this Earth Day, with increasing clouds and seasonal temperatures on tap this afternoon.

High temperatures should reach the 60s this afternoon under partly cloudy skies.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:23 p.m.

Conditions will be milder tonight, thanks to the increased cloud cover. We’ll only fall into the upper 40s with rain arriving before daybreak on Tuesday.

Waves of rain Tuesday

A chance of showers will arrive before sunrise on Tuesday morning. A line of showers will stretch from Sandusky, Lapeer and Waterford down into Ann Arbor by around 4 a.m.

That line of showers should push out by around 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. Rain shouldn’t impact the morning commute much for most.

Most of the day will be dry after the rainy morning. Highs will be around 60 degrees.

Another round of rain showers is likely in the evening. By around 9 p.m., a second wave of showers will again stretch across Metro Detroit.

There may be a few, non severe thunderstorms mixed in with the evening rain. A rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out.

Mild rest of the week

The rest of the week will be cooler and mild. High temps will dip into the 50s midweek.

We’ll rise to the seasonal 60s on Friday. Then, we’ll have 70s this weekend with more rain chances.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, rain and thunderstorm chances stretch from the upper Midwest and Great Lakes to the southern Plains over the next few days. It’s a chilly and frosty start to Earth Day throughout the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic, while well above average temperatures remain in place across much of the Southwest.
