Tornado watch issued for 20 Michigan counties

Storms moving through area Tuesday night

A tornado watch was issued for Tuesday afternoon and evening in 19 Michigan counties.

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for the following counties:

Allegan

Berrien

Cass

Kalamazoo

Kent

Ottawa

St. Joseph

Van Buren

A tornado watch is in effect for these Michigan counties until 11 p.m.

Barry

Branch

Calhoun

Clinton

Eaton

Hillsdale

Ingham

Ionia

Jackson

Lenawee

Monroe

Washtenaw

Severe storms are possible across the southern half of the Lower Peninsula on Tuesday, including Metro Detroit.

Tornado watch vs. warning

A Tornado Watch is issued when severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur. It only means they are possible.

A Tornado Warning is issued when a tornado is imminent. When a tornado warning is issued, seek safe shelter immediately.
