4Warn Weather – The wildfire smoke is back with a vengeance.
Detroit had the worst air of any major city in the world for part of Friday, according to IQAir. By late afternoon, Delhi and Toronto had snagged the first and second spots on the list. Detroit’s air remained “unhealthy.”
The pollution from Canadian wildfires is prompting an Air Quality Advisory for most of Southeast Michigan, including St. Clair, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, and Monroe counties through Friday. It is scheduled to lift at midnight.
The smoke could cause coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, dizziness, and a burning sensation in the nose, throat, and mouth.
It is recommended to limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. People should also keep windows closed during the advisory.
Southeast Michigan will see decreasing clouds on Friday night. The haze will begin to subside as temperatures fall to the lower to mid-50s.
Weekend brings a break, but showers likely to return early next week
Metro Detroit offers a variety of weekend events to choose from. Crowds will be at the Motor City Irish Festival in Livonia, Motor City Pride in Downtown Detroit, or the Tigers games.
Saturday is expected to bring the best weather of the weekend. Under partly cloudy to mostly sunny, albeit hazy skies, temperatures will be in the mid-70s to near 80 degrees.
Besides any air quality concerns, Saturday is expected to be comfortable. Lows will be in the mid-50s.
It’s a good idea to take an umbrella with you. There is a slight chance for rain returning Sunday and lingering on and off through Tuesday.
Highs will be in the mid-to-upper 70s to begin the workweek. Temperatures will jump to 80 degrees or greater on Wednesday and late in the week.
