Plenty of sunshine with few clouds in Metro Detroit -- Here’s a look at the forecast for Independence Day

Heat and humidity rise through the weekend with storm chances returning Sunday

DETROIT – Book your tee time or hit your favorite splash pad. We have a spectacular summer day on tap across Metro Detroit today.

The marginal risk for severe weather that was originally issued for today has been lifted by the Storm Prediction Center.

We anticipate plenty of sunshine with a few clouds increasing later this afternoon. There is the slimmest chance for an isolated shower or sprinkle, but the majority of us will remain dry.

Fourth of July

We will continue to warm up for the holiday as we flirt with 90 degrees. It will feel a little muggier, but we will stay dry for the local parades and firework displays. With the sunset at 9:12PM, plan for temperatures to be closer to 80 degrees around the time of fireworks Friday evening.

Independence Day Climatology:

Last year, our high temperature was 83 degrees on the Fourth of July. We will be trending about five degrees warmer that that with highs forecasted in the upper 80s.

Holiday Weekend

We crank up the heat on Saturday and Sunday as we rise back into the low 90s with increased humidity. There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms late Sunday with an approaching cold front that could bring lingering chances on Monday, but seasonal mid-80s through the first half of next week.
