DETROIT – A few isolated showers have popped up on radar this morning, but are quickly waning. With that said, shower and thunderstorm chances increase midday with isolated strong to severe wind gusts possible and the potential for heavy rainfall through this evening.
All of Southeast Michigan is under a marginal (level 1 our of 5) risk for severe storms today with highs in the upper 80s.
We are starting the day with unhealthy air quality as the wildfire smoke looms, but there are no active alerts as the smoke is expected to retreat north as the day progresses. Speaking of areas north... we could see some additional storms late tonight north of I-69.
A cold front works through Thursday producing some additional morning showers and likely non-severe storms. Highs remain in the 80s, but a cooler and less humid air mass builds in through Friday as we dip slightly below average with highs comfortably around 80.
As far as your weekend forecast, additional storms will be possible Saturday into Sunday but certainly not a weekend washout. Temperatures will be in the seasonal low 80s both days.
