Extreme heat, humidity with potential storms returning to Metro Detroit -- What to know

Storm potential returns on Thursday with oppressive heat

DETROIT – A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Thursday due to extreme heat building across Southeast Michigan. Heat index values will be around 100 degrees tomorrow.

A Heat Advisory will be in from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. On top of the heat concerns, we will also be under a marginal risk for isolated severe storms.

There still remains an amount of uncertainty exists in terms of coverage and exact timing.

The broader window is from 2 p.m. to Midnight and this will not be a widespread storm event. However, the isolated severe storms could be capable of producing isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rainfall. Storms may bring a quick 1.5 to 2+ inches in a short amount of time leading to localized flooding. In the meantime, today will be calm, mostly sunny and much warmer with highs in the upper 80s.

Warm and muggy conditions persist Friday through much of the weekend with additional shower/storm chances. The rain will only drop our temperatures a couple degrees this weekend with highs in the mid to upper 80s. We then start the next work week with highs around 90. High humidity could last through the end of the month.
