It is a wet and cooler-than-normal start to the weekend in Southeast Michigan, but prepare for the transition into several days of intense heat.
Expect the more scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which may bring heavy rainfall. primarily south of I‑94. Earlier showers and thunderstorms produced one to three inches of rain in Sanilac County, which led to flood concerns. Ponding on roadways is possible. Avoid driving through standing water.
Under mostly cloudy skies, rain showers are likely to end before midnight. Temperatures will bottom out around 70 degrees. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday
The rain moves out and the heat moves in.
Sunday morning will begin with mostly cloudy skies and the chance of an isolated rain shower. Clouds will decrease and reveal sunshine in the afternoon. Expect the heat and humidity to build, with highs in the upper-80s to 90 degrees. Afternoon heat indices will reach the lower- to mid-90s.
Sunday night’s lows will be around 70 degrees, under mostly clear skies.
Monday
Monday will see highs climbing into the lower-90s, with heat indices approaching 100 degrees. Plan for mostly sunny skies with a slight chance of pop-up showers and thunderstorms.
Tuesday
The pattern will continue Tuesday, which will bring partly cloudy skies and highs near 90.
Wednesday
A cooler and drier air mass will move over Michigan on Wednesday. Under mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will top out in the lower- to mid-80s. Lows will be in the lower- to mid-60s.
Looking Ahead
The cooler and quieter weather will continue into late week, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the mid‑70s to 80 degrees on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
The second half of the week will be ideal for outdoor events, grilling, biking, or gardening.
