Sunshine, heat and humidity return to the forecast for the end of the weekend in Metro Detroit

Heat index values through the first part of next week will soar into the mid to upper 90s

4Warn Weather – After most of the region saw some showers and a few thunderstorms through Saturday, we are going to dry things out for the end of the weekend and bring back more summer heat and humidity.

With the showers and thunderstorms that rolled through the region on Saturday afternoon and evening, some were on the stronger side of things, but we did not have any warnings. Despite that, the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac did confirm a tornado touchdown in Sanilac County around 4:20 PM on Saturday.

According to Sanilac County Emergency Managers and Michigan State Police, this happened at 4:18 PM on Saturday afternoon about 4 Miles Northeast of Deckerville in Sanilac County. A bar was damaged along with some superficial damage to a home as strong thunderstorms moved through the region.

After a slight chance of a rain shower early, I think the rest of the day will be dry for Sunday. We will do some sunshine as we had throughout the end of the weekend. High temperatures returning to more summer-like by the end of the weekend, heading back into the lower 90s. With the continued humidity, we are expecting heat index values to soar into the low to mid 90s by the afternoon as well.

Looking ahead into the start of next week, we will keep the chance of a few thunderstorms on Monday, other than that, we will see some sunshine as we had through throughout the day. It will be hot and it will be humid throughout the day, expect high temperatures to head back into the 90s with heat index values in the mid upper 90s closing in on 100° by Monday afternoon.

If you’re with your break from the heat and humidity, hold on, we do have one on the way looking ahead into the second half of next week. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds both days for Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures heading back into the lower 90s by Tuesday, the dropping in the middle 80s by Wednesday. Chances for showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast by late Tuesday night and into Wednesday with a cold front that will move through the region.

We will keep the dry weather in the forecast, looking ahead into the second half of the week, but temperatures will also cool down to get differently by the end of next week. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds on Thursday, giving way to plenty of sunshine by the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures heading into the upper 70s to 80° by the end of next week. Expect more sunshine for the start of next weekend on Saturday. High temperatures remaining in the lower 80s for next Saturday.
