Metro Detroit is seeing some improvement after wild weather over the past week. Deckerville’s tornado on Saturday, flash flooding on Monday and Wednesday, and current wildfire smoke have left Southeast Michigan weather-weary.
An Air Quality Alert is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan through Saturday, but the wildfire smoke was less dense and considered “acceptable” over the region on Friday.
The smoke is forecast to intensify again by Saturday afternoon. People are encouraged to be cautious outdoors. If you start to feel any throat, nose, or eye irritation, or if you start coughing, go indoors. It is best to keep windows closed until air conditions improve.
It is also a good idea to hold off on strenuous activities or mowing the lawn until Sunday or after, if you can, when the Air Quality Alert has passed.
Cool nighttime temperatures and mostly clear skies
Friday evening’s temperatures will be in the 60s and down into the 50s overnight. Lows will range from the lower-50s in the Thumb, Flint, and Howell to the mid-50s in Farmington Hills, Royal Oak, Warren, Clinton Township, Westland, Detroit, and Monroe.
This Weekend
Expect a mostly pleasant and warm weekend, except for the air quality concerns. Under mostly sunny skies, Saturday and Sunday will see highs in the lower-80s and lows in the upper-50s to lower-60s. Hazy conditions could develop Saturday afternoon and evening due to the smoke. Saturday’s winds will be northeasterly around 5 mph and out of the east-southeast on Sunday.
Looking Ahead
The clear conditions and near-normal and warmer temperatures should last into early next week, but a pop-up rain shower cannot be ruled out for Tuesday through Thursday. Most of next week will see highs in the mid-80s and lows in the 60s.
