4Warn Weather – Metro Detroit is enduring a stretch of poor air quality as wildfire smoke continues to linger across Southeast Michigan.

The Air Quality Alert has been extended for all of Southeast Michigan through Tuesday. The air quality is expected to remain in the “unhealthy” range in some communities.

Individuals with respiratory or heart conditions should limit their outdoor activities and exertion. Keep windows closed, and consider using an air purifier or higher-rated air filter for the HVAC to reduce indoor smoke.

Monday night’s skies will range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower- to mid-60s.

Relief from the smoke is likely just a few days away.

The thickest smoke is expected to ease slightly overnight, but yellow “moderate” air quality levels are likely to return on Tuesday.

The current forecast indicates that it may take until Wednesday morning or even later for a noticeable change, as a shift in wind direction could help clear some of the smoke from the air.

The warming trend is expected to continue later this week, with daytime highs reaching the mid-80s and approaching 90 degrees by Monday.

So, get ready for a stretch of classic summer heat along with that lingering haze.

There is hope for some rain and a wind shift by the weekend, which could help clear out some of the stubborn haze and finally give Metro Detroiters a breath of fresh air.

Until then, those with health concerns should remain cautious and check back for the latest updates from the 4Warn Weather team.
