Metro Detroit is looking at a mostly dry, warm, and increasingly humid week; but poor air quality remains a concern.
Smoky haze will linger into the start of the workweek as Canadian wildfire smoke continues to drift over Southeast Michigan.
The Air Quality Alert has been extended for all of Southeast Michigan through Monday. The air quality is forecast to be in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” range over much of Southeast Michigan and “unhealthy (for everyone)” in some communities.
People living with respiratory or heart conditions should minimize outdoor activity and exertion. Keep windows closed, and consider using an air purifier or higher rated air filter for the HVAC to reduce indoor smoke.
Sunday night will be partly cloudy to mostly clear with hazy skies. Overnight lows will range from the mid-50s in Ann Arbor and Lapeer to the lower-60s in Livonia, Detroit, and Warren.
Expect hazy sunshine with a high in the lower-80s to mid-80s on Monday. Wildfire smoke will build in the late morning and afternoon. Winds will be out of the east-southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Nighttime skies will range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower- to mid-60s.
The mostly clear to partly cloudy skies are expected to continue through the week. Expect highs in the mid-80s and lows in the 60s through Thursday. Friday through Sunday will see afternoon temperatures jumping into the upper-80s to 90 degrees. Weekend lows will be in the upper-60s to 70 degrees.
Smoky air will try to push back into the Great Lakes region during the week.
Stay cool, stay informed, and take precautions, especially if you or someone around you is vulnerable to poor air or heat.
