Heat, humidity stick around in Metro Detroit, with storms chances on the horizon

We have another stretch of that classic Metro Detroit summertime sizzle. This weekend is bringing sunshine and warm and muggy conditions.

Temperatures will run nearly 10 degrees above average this weekend.

Sunday will be hot. Under mostly sunny skies, highs will be in the lower-90s. The combined heat and humidity will send the heat index into the mid-90s across Southeast Michigan. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

People going to the Ribs R&B Music Festival in Hart Plaza, Sail Detroit at the Riverwalk, or any event in Metro Detroit should wear sunscreen and brace for the heat. An isolated rain shower over the Thumb cannot be ruled out on Sunday. Winds will be out of the SSW at 5-10 mph.

Sunday night will be partly cloudy and mostly clear. Expect lows around 70 degrees.

Timing of storm chances and temperature trends into next week

A couple of showers and thunderstorms will be possible Monday afternoon and evening, but the chance will increase on Tuesday and Wednesday as a cold front approaches.

The cold front will bring a modest drop in temperatures, with midweek highs in the mid-80s. Lows will go from the lower-70s to the mid- to upper-60s.

Even after the front passes, temperatures will remain warm, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s. Metro Detroit will have isolated rain chances holding on for Thursday and Friday.
