Thunderstorms are joining Metro Detroit’s stretch of hot and muggy weather.

The 90-degree weather of the weekend is continuing for the start of this week. The humidity is combining with the hot air to make it feel like the mid-90s.

That same moisture will help to fuel showers and thunderstorms over Southeast Michigan on Monday and Tuesday.

The strongest storms on Monday evening will be capable of heavy rain and gusty winds up to 60 mph. Rainfall at rates up to an inch an hour could cause street flooding.

Storms will wane by sunset on Monday, but a few showers could linger later into the night.

After any showers or storms, Monday night will deliver partly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the lower-70s.

Tuesday

Another chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive Tuesday. There is a marginal, or level one of five, risk that a few of the storms become severe anywhere in Southeast Michigan. The afternoon and evening storms could be capable of downpours and strong gusts up to 60 mph. The strongest storms are likely from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Localized flooding will also be a threat. Pay attention to the sky and the 4Warn Weather App.

There is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms to continue into the night. Lows will be around 70 degrees.

Wednesday

Wednesday will be warm and humid, but it will be several degrees cooler. A couple of showers will be possible in the morning, mainly before the morning commute. Expect highs in the mid-80s. Under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, lows will fall into the mid-60s.

Thursday

Thursday will be mostly sunny and a degree or two cooler. Highs will be in the mid-80s, with crisp overnight temperatures in the lower- to mid-60s.

Friday

Expect comfortable and pleasant conditions on Friday. It will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-upper-80s. The weather will be ideal for outdoor plans.

This Weekend

Saturday and Sunday will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with temperatures peaking around 90 degrees, but a few showers and thunderstorms could interrupt Sunday’s sunshine.

Enjoy the sunshine, but remember to take precautions in the heat. Be sure to avoid any flooded roadways. If you capture any weather photos or videos, share them with us through MIPics. You could be featured on Local 4 News!
