Tropical Storm Fernand

Tropical Storm Fernand became a named storm on Saturday afternoon. It formed in the central Atlantic, or roughly 400 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. In the afternoon, Fernand was moving north at about 15 mph, with sustained winds of around 40 mph. No watches or warnings were in effect for land.

Fernand is projected to veer northeast, stay well east of Bermuda, and remain over open water. It may strengthen slightly and near hurricane strength by Monday, but it will likely begin to weaken on Tuesday.

Bermuda may face rough surf. The eastern U.S. coastline is not expected to be affected.
