Sunshine, above-average temperatures as students head Back to School in Metro Detroit on Tuesday

Rain chances return to the forecast by the time we get to Thursday; before colder changes arrive

4Warn Weather – The beautiful weather has continued through the entire holiday weekend, with a gradual warm-up in temperatures as well, and we’re expecting much of the same as most students are heading back to the classroom for the start of the new school year!

The sunshine will continue for Tuesday and a part of Wednesday, before our next system moves into the region, bringing chances for rain showers for most everyone. That system looks to move in late Wednesday night and into Thursday. High temperatures warming into the low 80s by the time we get to Wednesday afternoon.

Once that frontal boundary moves through on Thursday, we will drop temperatures back to below average territory once again with another cool blast of air coming in from Canada for the end of next week and the first weekend in September. High temperatures will only make it into the mid to upper-60s by the time we get to Thursday and into Friday.

We will keep some cloud cover in the forecast for Friday; mostly cloudy skies can be expected before we break into more sunshine by the time we get to the start of next weekend on Saturday. We will also keep the chance of a rain shower or two into the forecast with a secondary cold front moving into the region by the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures will remain in the upper 60s by the time we get to Saturday.

A mixture of sunshine and clouds can be expected looking ahead into the end of next weekend, with the cooler-than-average temperatures sticking around. High temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to upper 60s by Sunday. Temperatures will also moderate a little bit by the start of next week, on Monday. Expect high temperatures to head back into the lower 70s by the start of next week.

The below-average trend for temperatures will stick around into the first part of September. The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 Day Temperature Outlook continues to show below average temperatures for the Eastern 2/3rd of the United States, which includes Metro Detroit, all the way through September 10th. So, keep the jackets and the hoodies handy, we’re going to need them for a bit!
