MONDAY: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of rain showers. High: 78.

After plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures to the end of the week, we are going to bring a little more cloud cover into the forecast, looking heading into the start of the weekend on Saturday.

While we will remain dry to start the weekend, we’re going to watch an upper-level disturbance, and a warm front lift north and east into the region by the time we get to Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. This is going to bring a little more cloud cover into the forecast, but we will remain dry as we head throughout the day. High temperature is dropping a few degrees, into the upper 70s by Saturday afternoon.

Looking ahead to the end of the weekend on Sunday, with a second upper-level disturbance moving through the region, we will bring the chance of rain showers, and even a few thunderstorms into the forecast by Sunday afternoon and into Sunday evening. We are not looking at the chance of any severe weather, but a better chance of more widespread rain showers is likely looking ahead into Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. High temperature is warming into the lower 80s by Sunday afternoon.

And we could definitely use the rainfall across the region, the latest drought monitor places most of Southeastern Michigan in a D0 drought category, meaning we are abnormally dry. So far during the month of September, we have only seen 0.41” of rain at Detroit Metro Airport, most of this falling on one day. Our average rainfall total by the time we get to September 20th is 2.12” of rain, so we’re running almost an inch and a half below where we should be for this time in late September. Comparing this to where we were in September 2024, we’re doing a little better, but not much. We only saw 0.06” of rain by this time in September last year, and we will see some much-needed rainfall through the end of the weekend and into the start of next week.

Looking ahead into the start of next week, that upper-level disturbance is going to bring additional shower chances to the region both Monday and Tuesday. So we will keep the chance of rain showers in the forecast, do not put the umbrella away, but you should not need it all day, both days. With the rain showers sticking around, expect some cooler air to move into the region. High temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 70s for Monday and Tuesday.

With the upper-level disturbance still near the region, looking ahead into the middle of the week on Wednesday, we will start to dry things out, but we will keep the cloud cover in the forecast. Expect mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures sticking around. High temperatures heading into the mid-70s by Wednesday afternoon.

We will break into a little bit of sunshine by the time we get to Thursday, before the clouds increase, and another chance of rain showers moves into the region by the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures will remain in the mid-70s by Thursday afternoon, then drop into the lower 70s by the time we get to the end of the week on Friday.
