Southeast Michigan will kick off the new week with temperatures near seasonal norms, but it will trend cooler than average from mid- to late week.

Monday will start off clear and crisp. Morning temperatures will dip into the lower- to mid-40s for much of Metro Detroit, with some outlying areas dipping slightly cooler. Conditions will be ideal for the morning school commute, though light jackets will be needed at the bus stop. Temperatures will quickly rise through the day, reaching the lower 60s by late afternoon, under mostly sunny skies. West winds around 10 mph may add a slight chill to the air in the morning. Winds will be out of the southwest at 6 to 12 mph in the afternoon.

Lions Forecast

By Monday evening, attention turns to Ford Field, where the Detroit Lions will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tailgaters should expect dry weather with temperatures in the upper-50s during the early evening, falling to the lower-50s by late evening. Skies will be mostly clear with a light breeze, making for comfortable but cool conditions before fans head indoors for kickoff at 7 p.m.

Tuesday

A pattern shift arrives Tuesday, bringing the first of several rain chances. A storm system moving in from the west will deliver scattered showers and breezy southwest winds, with gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph at times. Highs will reach the upper-50s to around 60 degrees, then fall back into the lower- to mid-40s Tuesday night with lingering showers.

Wednesday

Wednesday will remain unsettled, with periods of rain likely and highs only in the lower- to mid-50s. This is several degrees below average for mid-October. Additional light rainfall may develop Thursday afternoon, with highs on Thursday staying in the lower- to mid-50s. Skies may partially clear late Thursday into Friday, but another cold front will keep temperatures suppressed.

Thursday

The coolest night of the week looks to be Thursday night, when temperatures will drop into the mid- to upper-30s around Metro Detroit and could fall into the lower-30s in parts of the Thumb. A light freeze and frost will be possible in the colder spots. While the growing season has ended, sensitive vegetation should be protected.

Friday through Weekend

Friday through the weekend will feature a gradual warming trend, but temperatures will still hover at or below averages. Highs will be around the mid- to upper-50s with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will range from the upper-30s to mid-40s. Another weak system could bring an isolated shower south of I-94, but the weekend looks dry and cool for most of Southeast Michigan.

Overall, this week will feel more like late fall, with cooler-than-normal temperatures and periodic rain. Light jackets and layers will be useful each morning and evening, and breezy conditions at times may make it feel a few degrees cooler than the thermometer reads.
