From showers to sunshine: Blustery Monday on tap for Metro Detroit
After a day of extra sleep and sunshine, clouds are making a comeback across Southeast Michigan. Temperatures will settle into the upper-30s to near 40 degrees, with skies turning mostly cloudy Sunday night. Showers will arrive before dawn, just in time for the Monday morning rush.
For parents and students heading out early, a few light rain showers could make for damp commutes and slippery roads. Make sure the kids grab a rain jacket — not the umbrella — since winds will be picking up through the morning. Gusts out of the west-southwest could reach 30 to 35 miles per hour by the afternoon, enough to turn umbrellas inside out.
Despite the early showers, skies will gradually brighten through the day. Sunshine returns by midday and into the afternoon, helping temperatures climb into the upper-50s.
Monday night will be mostly clear, with lows in the mid-30s.
Looking Ahead
The rest of the week brings more ups and downs. Tuesday stays dry and pleasant, with highs in the upper-50s, before another round of scattered rain midweek.
Rain will return on Friday. By next weekend, temperatures will dip again, and by Sunday, a few sprinkles could even mix with wet snowflakes as colder air settles in.
Monday’s sunrise will be at 7:10 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:25 p.m. The evening commutes will be darker earlier. The shorter days are a sure sign that winter is not far away.
