Snow chances 5 of next 6 days in Metro Detroit -- timing, how much to expect

1-2 inches of snow possible Thursday, maybe more accumulating snow this weekend

DETROIT – There’s a chance of snow in the forecast for five of the next six days in Metro Detroit.

Here’s a look at what we know for each of those days so far.

Wednesday snow showers

Expect snow showers to continue Wednesday night and into Thursday.

Overnight lows Wednesday into Thursday will drop into the upper 20s, so there could be slick spots on the roads.

1-2 inches of snow by Thursday

Snowfall is likely to continue throughout much of the day Thursday, and most places could see 1-2 inches of snow through late Thursday night.

The areas that see the highest snowfall totals will be those hit by repeated rounds of snow showers coming off the lake over the next 24-36 hours.

With those overnight lows in the upper 20s and continued snow, slick roads could be an issue for most of the day Thursday.

High temperatures will only make it to the low or mid-30s by the afternoon. Factor in the gust winds and it’ll feel much colder than the actual air temperature on Thanksgiving.

Expect the snow to wind down late Thursday night heading into another cold overnight, with los dropping into the 20s for the whole area.

Cloudy Friday

Friday will remain cloudy, with high temperatures warming into the low to mid-30s by the afternoon.

Saturday snow chances

The weather pattern gets active once again heading into the weekend.

Saturday will start cloudy before snow moves back into the area in the afternoon and evening.

There’s a chance of snow accumulation looking ahead to the start of the weekend on Saturday, but it’s still too early to pin down where and how much snow we might see. The latest data is trending toward accumulation, though.

Snow continues Sunday

Snow will stick around into the end of the weekend on Sunday.

As temperatures warm into the mid-30s, there’s a chance snow could change over to a rain-snow mix before returning to snow showers or a wintry mix on Sunday night.

We will continue to fine-tune the weekend forecast as it draws closer.

Snow in next week’s forecast

Snow showers remain in the forecast looking ahead to the start of next week on Monday. It’s still a bit too far out to get into the details of this snow chance.

High temperatures stay below freezing in the lower 30s before conditions dry out while remaining cloudy on Tuesday. Expect even colder temperatures, with higs in the upper 20s by Tuesday.
