From dangerous roads to dangerous cold: What to know about frigid conditions in Metro Detroit

Wind chills expected to drop near 20 degrees below zero tonight

DETROIT – A 4Warn Weather Alert has been extended through Tuesday morning.

As for this morning, the alert is due to poor road conditions from the measurable snowfall on Sunday.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10am for Huron and Sanilac Counties. The 4Warn Weather alert continues this evening due to extreme cold.

A Cold Weather Advisory goes into effect for all of Southeast Michigan at 7PM through 10AM Tuesday for the first round of dangerously cold wind chills this week. A quick temperature drop tonight will allow for wind chills to drop into the 10 to 20 degree below zero range by Midnight for most of Metro Detroit.

The cold has taken hold and not letting up this week. Frigid conditions are forecasted through Friday with wind chills occasionally reaching 15 below zero or colder. Not to mention, snow showers return early Tuesday becoming more scattered into the afternoon and are expected to result in a dusting to 2 inches of accumulation, with a low chance for isolated snow squalls. Additional snow showers are possible on Wednesday.
