4Warn Weather – Light snow will create slick travel conditions Thursday night and Friday morning in Metro Detroit.
Snow is accumulating on untreated roads and sidewalks in Southeast Michigan.
While snowfall rates remain generally light, brief periods of steadier snow could reduce visibility at times.
Thursday night, snow continues intermittently, with overnight lows in the upper teens to 20 degrees.
Patchy freezing rain is possible, but little to no ice accumulation is expected. Roads may remain slick, particularly on bridges and secondary streets.
Friday
A 4Warn Weather Alert has been declared for Friday in Southeast Michigan.
Snow will persist through the Friday morning commute, making travel slippery.
Most areas across Metro Detroit are expected to see one to two inches of snow, with isolated totals up to three inches possible by afternoon.
An additional coating is possible in the afternoon and evening.
Winds increase Friday afternoon as colder air flows in behind the departing system.
Northwest wind gusts could reach 30 to 40 mph, resulting in blowing and drifting snow.
Brief snow squalls may develop, rapidly reducing visibility and making roads slick.
Saturday
Friday night into Saturday morning brings other hazardous conditions. Temperatures fall quickly, with lows near zero or below, while strong winds drive wind chills down to 15 to 20 degrees below zero.
These conditions increase the risk of frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.
Saturday remains mostly sunny but bitterly cold, with highs only in the teens.
Wind chills remain below zero through much of the morning, then slowly improve in the afternoon. Another cold night follows Saturday night, with lows in the single digits.
Sunday
Conditions improve slightly on Sunday, with highs climbing into the lower 20s, though it will still feel cold.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead to next week, a gradual warmup is expected.
Temperatures moderate into the upper 20s and lower 30s by Monday, with highs potentially reaching the mid-30s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
Commuters and pedestrians are encouraged to allow extra time for travel, use caution on slick surfaces, dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors during extreme cold.
