A cold front moved through Southeast Michigan late Tuesday, ending the risk for strong storms.

While a few lingering showers may still be possible overnight, the atmosphere has stabilized. Severe weather is not expected.

Wednesday

Wednesday, the first day of April, marks a noticeable shift. Cooler air settles in behind the front, with highs only reaching the mid-40s under mostly cloudy skies.

It will feel much different compared to the warmth earlier in the week. While most of Metro Detroit stays dry, a brief shower will be possible.

The Thumb and Saginaw Valley area could even see a few wet snowflakes.

Thursday

The quiet weather does not last long. By Thursday, temperatures rebound into the upper 60s to 70 degrees as a warm front lifts back into the region.

That will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, especially later in the day and into the evening.

Some of those storms could become strong to severe. The main threats include wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to around one inch in diameter.

The exact timing remains uncertain, but the late afternoon and evening hours appear to be the most favorable window for stronger storms.

That could affect plans across the city, including the Detroit Pistons game Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Fans heading downtown in the evening should be prepared for the possibility of rain and thunderstorms nearby and allow extra time for travel.

Friday

By Friday, attention shifts to Comerica Park for the Tigers’ home opener at 1:10 p.m.

Temperatures will climb to around 70 degrees, but conditions remain unsettled.

There is a chance of scattered rain showers throughout the day.

It does not look like a washout, but there could be occasional interruptions, so fans are encouraged to bring rain gear and stay aware of changing conditions.

Saturday

Rain chances increase again heading into the weekend. Saturday currently looks like the wettest day, with periods of rain likely and highs near the upper 60s.

Sunday

Easter Sunday brings cooler air back into Metro Detroit, with highs in the lower 50s under mostly cloudy skies.

There remains a chance for lingering rain showers, which could affect outdoor plans such as egg hunts and family gatherings.

It may be a good idea to have indoor backup options.

Downtown will remain busy Sunday as well, with the Detroit Red Wings hosting a 1 p.m. game at Little Caesars Arena.

Conditions look cool and mostly cloudy, with only a chance of a passing shower, so widespread impacts appear limited.

Looking ahead

Looking ahead to early next week, temperatures stay on the cooler side with highs in the lower 50s on Monday and Tuesday. Another system could bring a chance of mixed precipitation by Tuesday, continuing an active and somewhat unsettled start to April.
