4Warn Weather – After a picture-perfect start to the unofficial kickoff to summer, Metro Detroit is settling into a warm, mostly quiet stretch of weather, with just a brief interruption possible on Wednesday evening.
Memorial Day brought sunshine and comfortable temperatures across Metro Detroit, and Tuesday continued the trend with what many would call nearly ideal late-May weather.
Warm sunshine, low humidity, and light winds made it easy to spend time outside, whether that meant grilling, heading to a park, taking an evening bike ride, or simply opening the windows at home.
Wednesday
The atmosphere changes slightly on Wednesday as temperatures climb into the lower and middle 80s, making it the warmest day of the week for many communities. Humidity will also begin creeping upward as moisture flows north into Southeast Michigan ahead of a weak front.
That extra humidity may not feel oppressive by midsummer standards, but it could be enough to make people notice a little frizz in their hair, stickier conditions during the afternoon commute, and sweatier workouts or walks outdoors.
It will feel more summer-like than the crisp, comfortable air earlier this week.
Still, Wednesday remains a solid day for outdoor plans overall.
Kids getting out of school may find it warm enough for an early pool day, while parks, patios, and playgrounds should stay busy through much of the afternoon.
Anyone planning a jog, bike ride, or evening walk should have plenty of dry hours.
The main weather concern arrives during a relatively narrow window late Wednesday afternoon into the evening, generally between about 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., when a few isolated showers or pop-up thunderstorms could develop.
Coverage is expected to remain limited, meaning many neighborhoods will stay completely dry while others briefly hear a rumble of thunder or catch a quick downpour.
The chance of rain is low enough that most outdoor activities should still be able to continue.
People heading to evening baseball practices, outdoor dining spots, or after-work events may simply want to keep an eye on the sky and have a nearby indoor backup option in case a shower develops overhead.
By Wednesday night, cooler and less humid air begins sliding back into the region.
Thursday
Thursday turns noticeably more comfortable, with highs dropping back into the 70s, lower humidity, and sunshine returning.
Grand Prix weather
That pleasant pattern continues right into the weekend for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix from May 29 through May 31.
Current forecasts show sunshine and seasonable temperatures for much of Grand Prix weekend, with highs generally in the 70s and comfortable nights in the 50s.
Lows will dip into the 40s in some northern suburbs and the Thumb.
The combination of dry weather, lighter humidity, and comfortable temperatures should create excellent conditions for race fans heading downtown along the riverfront.
The forecast also looks favorable for boaters, backyard gatherings, trips to Eastern Market, park visits, and other outdoor plans across Southeast Michigan as the region heads into the first weekend of June.
