A 4Warn Weather Alert is in effect today as dangerous heat and humidity settle over Southeast Michigan. A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan from noon until 8 p.m. today. Afternoon temperatures will soar into the upper 90s, while oppressive humidity will push heat index values above 100 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
The extreme heat will continue through Wednesday, with another day of temperatures in the 90s and heat indices approaching 100 degrees. Additional heat headlines, including another Heat Advisory, could be issued for Wednesday if forecast conditions remain on track. The combination of intense sunshine, high temperatures, and humidity will increase the risk of heat-related illness. Try to limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and check on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and pets.
The heat begins to ease later this week as the weather pattern becomes more active. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives late Friday into Saturday, bringing the potential for locally heavy rain and a temporary break from the hottest temperatures.
