Metro Detroit weather forecast: Summer in the city

Heat sticks around

DETROIT – Our unusual September heat is here for a while -- get used to it.

Here are the official highs at Metro Airport the past two days, the forecast for today and the next few days, and each day’s record high:

  • Thursday:  89°  (92°)
  • Friday:  89°  (91°)
  • Today:  89°  (89°)
  • Sunday:  90°  (89°)
  • Monday:  89°  (93°)
  • Tuesday:  87°  (91°)

We’ll see mostly sunny skies through this period, with only the very slightest chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm around 4:00 p.m.  In fact, two high-resolution computer models this morning are depicting one thunderstorm this afternoon. That’s right, one. Naturally, those of you who have our free Local4Casters app will receive notifications if any rain or lightning develops within 5 miles of your location (as long as you have that notification enabled in our app’s setting menu).

So, expect highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees (32 degrees Celsius), with overnight lows generally in the mid to upper 60s (18-20 degrees Celsius) through Tuesday.

Our next cold front finally arrives either late Tuesday night or Wednesday. The computer models aren’t too impressive with our rain chances…perhaps some scattered showers and thunderstorms (and one model suggests no rain). If we don’t get any rain, then our already very dry conditions will only get worse. But for those of you who don’t like the hot weather, you’ll love the relief that follows: highs in the mid to upper 60s (18-20 degrees Celsius) by the end of next week.
