ANN ARBOR – Gender embodiment workshops are returning to Ann Arbor YMCA starting May 30.

The four-part virtual workshops have been designed by Elizabeth Terrel to help participants better express themselves through vocal practices and movement.

Terrel is the Director of Voice & Movement at Western Michigan University Department of Theatre, the creator of the Terrel Presence Training, a certified yoga teacher, image consultant and voicework teacher.

“As a trainer, I draw from all my areas of expertise: voice, movement, and image, when working with voice as it relates to gender identity and perception,” Terrel said in a release.

“Pitch, timbre, onset (how we start words and phrases) all influence how we feel and what others hear. Together, we’re going to have a great time playing with possibilities and exploring ways we can shape our vocal identities!”

The workshop costs $80 for YMCA members and $160 for non-members.

Here’s when the workshops will happen:

  • May 30
  • June 6
  • June 13

Those who need financial assistance for the workshops should contact YMCA Financial Assistance Coordinator Noah Moorehouse at 734-661-8007 or nomoorehouse@annarborymca.org.
