Man killed, teen girl arrested following stabbing on Detroit’s east side

Officials have not said what led to the argument, but police believe the girl stabbed the man

DETROIT – A man is dead, and a teenage girl is under arrest following a stabbing on Detroit’s east side.

Police said the two got into an argument on Wednesday (Aug. 19) around 9:30 a.m. at a home on Marx Street.

Officials have not said what led to the argument, but police believe the girl stabbed the man.

Neighbors told Local 4 the scene was difficult to watch, but several rushed to help.

Joe King said he was alerted after hearing an argument and then hearing the man yell for someone to call police because he had been stabbed.

King said he looked out his window and saw the man leave the house, walk down the steps, and collapse on the grass.

He and several neighbors went outside to help before emergency responders arrived.

“We tried to do what we could do,” King said.

King said one neighbor with health care experience applied pressure to the wound while others looked for something they could use as a makeshift tourniquet.

He said the incident was especially difficult because of the close relationship among neighbors on the block.

“This was kind of a block we own,” King said. “We try to look out for each other. It’s a family block.”

King said violence like this is unusual in the neighborhood, where residents have known one another for years.

“It hits different when it’s this close,” King said. “We read about it all day, every day. Something happens, something happens, something happens. But until you’re right there, and it happens right there in front of you, you got a different, it hits different.”

King said he knew the victim well enough to greet him regularly.

He said his thoughts are with the victim’s family and urged neighbors to continue looking out for one another.

“We’re just gonna pray for the family and then pray that the Lord works things out according to his will,” King said. “That’s all we can do.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing or announced any charges against the teenager.
