The low-cost sale will go from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Wednesday and Saturday in building E at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds.

In a message on the JLC website, organizer Todd Whalen said tips collected during the sale will be given to a friend diagnosed with ALS. The Whalen family first started collecting tips for their friend Penny during a 2023 JLC event and raised $2,000.

Here’s how things work:

Community members donate items throughout the year through a free service called Give My Books. The Whalen family then sells the items for low prices during three sales and gives the money to a cause.

The first day of this month’s sale, Wednesday, April 17, is deemed “premium access” day and all books will cost $4. All children’s books will cost $2. Starting at 4 p.m., Ann Arbor area teachers buying books will get a 10% discount if they show proof of teaching at checkout.

The general sale opens at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 18. Items will cost between $1-$5 each.

The Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd.
