DETROIT – Detroit's three automakers and foreign automakers are expected to see strong May sales when compared to last year at the same time.
The biggest gains are expected to come from Toyota, Honda, and Nissan because the Tsunami greatly impacted sales from last year.
In Detroit, Ford appear to be selling cars at such a good rate they can hardly keep up with demand.
The numbers are expected to be good Polk Auto Analyst Tom Libby said, "Overall Ford is fine, they just won't show the growth in share that they have shown."
General Motors is expected to have a good showing as well, but analysts said the bigger story may be GM's drop in market share which is down two points this year.
"2 points is equal to the entire U.S. volume of either BMW or Mercedes Benz. That's a big loss for GM and their share is now in the 17's. It hasn't been that low since the early part of the 20th century," said Libby.
As for Chrysler, it has boasted a 30% year to year sales increase for the past four months and another gain is expected.
"Chrysler has a huge amount of positive momentum going forward. We see that lessening, waning a little bit, but its new product continues to do well," said Libby.
Auto sales for the month of May will be released Friday, June 1st.
