Detroit receives $100K in grants for food movement

DETROIT – Detroit's local food industry is receiving $100,000 in grants to fuel the growing food movement.

The grant will be awarded through the Charter One Growing Communities program and will be used to buy equipment, acquire land or otherwise assist in the growth of the food movement.

Charter One has high hopes for job-creating expansion and also supports the healthy aspects of residents having better access to local, nutritious foods.

Part of the grant will be used to ensure that underserved Detroit neighborhood grocery stores will be have nutritious food.

The grant money is being supplied by Charter One and the State of Michigan.

Charter One has invested more than $300,000 in efforts to expand Detroit's local food industry.
