Focus: HOPE in need of Metro Detroit volunteers

DETROIT – Every month Focus: HOPE sends out 42,000 food boxes to seniors in need.

The weekly food boxes hold non-perishable staples and act as a supplement to other programs like Meals on Wheels. They’re delivered to Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties.

“I think the stretch between Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve people realize that there is a great need out there and they’re looking for ways to volunteer,” CEO Portia Roberson said.

When January rolls around and the weather gets worse it’s far harder to find volunteers to help pack the boxes which is why Focus: HOPE is putting out the call for help. Volunteers are welcome Monday through Friday and two Saturdays a month to spend an hour or several hours helping pack food for needy seniors.

Whether you’re a person looking to make a difference or a company looking for a service project the nonprofit would love the help. The crew at Focus: HOPE is a fun one and packing the boxes can become a friendly competition. You can call them at 313-494-4270 or email at volunteer@focushope.edu.

We want to honor those making a difference. Click here to nominate someone who’s Going 4 It in your community. We’ll be featuring your nominees every month on Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.
