DETROIT – ⚾ Batter up for one of the city’s biggest celebrations! It’s Opening Day and the streets come alive with plenty of places to party even without a ticket to the game.

101 WRIF Opening Day Party (The Fillmore), Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Don’t have tickets to the game? Just head on over across Woodward Ave for a free party at The Fillmore. Meet Dave & Chuck who will be broadcasting live in the morning. Plus, enter for last chance tickets to the game as well as other Tigers prizes. Stick around to watch the game on the big screen. Opening Day Tailgate Party (Grand Circus Park), Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Just across Comerica Park is a free official celebration. With appearances by the Tigers’ Energy Squad and Paws, as well as meet-and-greets with former Tigers, it’s the ultimate fan experience. Show off your skills with speed pitch and cornhole, then head on into the interactive exhibits and beer tent. Enjoy food trucks, music and plenty of swag giveaways. Detroit Home Opener Festival (Madison Ave. Festival Grounds), Friday 9 a.m.: When the Tigers return, so does Detroit’s biggest party. Come hang out in spacious heated tents and outdoor party areas with two stages of live entertainment, all just one block away from Comerica Park. Arty Party (Ford Community & Performing Arts Center), Saturday 4 to 8 p.m.: Kickoff Dearborn’s April Arts Month with a free celebration for the whole family. Let your creativity run wild with art demonstrations, craft making, an artist’s market and pop-up exhibits curated by the Dearborn Fine Arts Club. And it’s not just the visual arts, you’ll also find culinary delights from local restaurants and chefs. Admission is free. More info here.

Royal Oak Bourbon Fest (Royal Oak Farmers Market), Saturday 5 to 10 p.m.: Grab your souvenir keepsake glass and take your pick from over 200 of the best local and international bourbons, whiskeys and more. Detroit International Festival of Animation (Senate Theater), Saturday 7 p.m.: Celebrate the works of local and international animators with the 8th annual film festival. Showcasing 97 minutes of shorts from all different styles like stop motion and watercolor, there’s a little something for everyone. Arrive early to catch the Wurlitzer Pipe Organ in action before the shorts. Tickets are $10. Suggested for 18 and over due to mature content. Get tickets here.

Breaking the Waves (Detroit Opera House), Saturday 7:30 p.m.: Based on the film by Lars von Trier, Missy Mazzoli’s modern opera explores the emotional experience of love and what it means to break the boundaries set by society. Breaking the Waves will be the first opera by a female composer presented on the Detroit Opera mainstage. Tickets start at $30. Showtimes and tickets here.

National All Things Detroit Day (Eastern Market), Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: It’s a huge milestone for National All Things Detroit Day with a decade of celebrating what makes our city so great by supporting up and coming local entrepreneurs who are building the next best thing. Shop from over 200 small businesses selling handcrafted art, home goods, food and more. This year, All Things Detroit will take over Sheds 3, 4 and 5. Tickets are $5 at the door. Novi Home & Garden Show (Suburban Collection Showplace), Friday to Sunday: It’s your inspiration station for all those home improvement projects you’ve been waiting to start! Discover the latest and greatest products for every style. From decorating and landscaping exhibits to patios and pools, spruce up this spring with hundreds of local vendors ready to offer their best prices of the year. Bookstock (Laurel Park Place), through April 14: Detroit’s largest used book and media sale is back for its 20th year! Bookstock has over 300,000 donated books and media items for sale with proceeds benefiting education and literacy in the community.
