Michigan students reported a record number of incidents to the Michigan State Police’s OK2SAY safety program last year, ranging from bullying and harassment to drug use and suicide threats.
Launched in September 2014, OK2SAY allows anyone to confidentially report tips on potential harm or crime directed at Michigan students, school employees, and schools.

In the latest annual OK2SAY report, released Tuesday, MSP reported it received 10,777 tips (about 8,242 incidents) through the program — the second-highest number recorded since the program began.
OK2SAY received the highest number of submissions in 2024, with 11,671 tips received that year alone.
“We continue to see that OK2SAY serves an important need in our state, empowering students to take an active role in keeping their schools and communities safe,” said MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II, in a statement “Every tip received shows our children have the courage and compassion to say something helpful when they suspect something harmful.”
According to most recent data, police received the highest number of tips (1,816) in the “other” category, which includes anxiety, stress, depression and harassment. Other top five categories for 2025 include:
- Suicide threats (1,767 tips)
- Bullying (1,576 tips)
- Drugs (1,153 tips)
- Sexual assault/misconduct/exploitation (1,036 tips)
When a tip is received, OK2SAY technicians share the information with the appropriate responding agency or agencies. Tips lacking detail may not be eligible for referral or follow-up action, according to MSP.
Additional highlights from 2025 report:
- 57 tips led to the immediate transport or hospitalization of a student due to suicidal thoughts or actions
- 41 tips involved a weapon
- 220 tips involved the seizure of drugs or alcohol
- 445 schools conducted formal behavioral threat or suicide assessments following an OK2SAY tip, ensuring that at-risk students received structured support and oversight
- Behavioral threat and suicide assessments increased by 89% in 2025 compared to 2024
