Meijer to break ground on 2nd store in Detroit

Store will be built on site of former Redford High School

DETROIT – Meijer plans to break ground on its second store in Detroit next week.

The grocery chain said a ceremony will be held next Monday on the site of the former Redford High School -- at Grand River Avenue and McNichols Road.

The new store will have a drive-thru pharmacy, a gas station and is expected to create 500 jobs.

Construction is expected to take a year.

Meijer opened its first store off Woodward Avenue at 8 Mile Road last July.
