Flavors to savor before summer ends

There’s nothing better to pair with hot weather than seafood!

Let’s be real, we are almost midway through August, which means summer is wrapping up soon -- but it’s not over yet! With the end of the season comes a bunch of new fruits and veggies that are beginning to ripen, and lots of great seasonal favorites on menus.

We spoke to the experts at Black Rock Bar to Grill to learn about which flavors you should savor before summer ends.

First among many is seafood. There is something about fish and shellfish that just pair perfectly with the hot weather. Frequently seafood is light in texture and cooked or served with citrus to make for a refreshing meal as opposed to weighing you down like wintery stews.

Right now Black Rock is dishing up a deal on snow crab, which makes it even more appetizing. It’s fun to crack into a leg or claw and enjoy the mild yet slightly sweet meat. Cook it in a pot with some fresh herbs and lemon, pair it with some melted butter and you have a deliciously simple meal that’s perfect for summer.

Another great warm-weather protein is ahi tuna. This fish, in particular, is great because you don’t have to cook it to enjoy it. Sushi-grade ahi tuna can be tossed in some soy sauce with a hint of wasabi and served with something fresh like a mango salsa to make a great summer appetizer. Add some fried wasabi chips to give a bit of crunch, and you have one of the dishes they serve up at Black Rock.

Now that we’ve talked about the food, let’s discuss drinks. Fresh fruits and herbs are great things to add to your cocktail to make it feel seasonal. Also consider using an iced tea, like hibiscus, to add some color and complexity to your drinks while still remaining refreshing. Black Rock has many summer cocktails for you to enjoy before fall rolls around.
