How to prevent heartworms in pets

The weather is slowly starting to heat up and along with this comes many complications that can be dangerous to your pets. April is heartworm awareness month, and it is vital to keep your pet safe. Devan Bianco from the Michigan Humane joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest-host Hobie Artigue to discuss the importance of heartworm protection.

Here are some things that are known about heartworms:

1. Both indoor and outdoor animals are at risk for heartworms.

2. The disease is typical in dogs, but cats can also get it.

3. Heartworms are contracted from mosquito bites.

4. Prevention is key, consult with a veterinarian about ways to keep your pets safe.
