An important message behind the hats

You can check out these head pieces in Detroit

A head piece collection with historic meaning behind each piece will be on display as art in Detroit.

The artist behind this collection, Kwaku Osei-Bonsu, appeared on “Live in the D” to discuss his collection with host Tati Amare and co-host Lomas Brown. ‘Whiggs Not For Sale’ will display 9 handmade head pieces with historic meaning behind them.

The emotions behind the pieces are what he says are to “spark honor and pride” and “to acknowledge the extraordinary and the ordinary.” The pieces are based off of contemporary black hairstyles as well as pre-colonial African civilizations. So, he says that, “Marrying those two things helps us to interact with the past as well as the present.” He also wants to make sure that he is continuing to make history.

Although you cannot purchase the actual head pieces, you can purchase portraits, abstracts, and merchandise. ‘Whiggs Not For Sale’ will be showing at Spot Lite in Detroit until March 30th.
