Lots happening this Memorial Day weekend in Metro Detroit

From art to comedy, tons to do for all ages

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, also known as the unofficial start to summer, many are trying to figure out what they’re doing this weekend. There’s plenty going on in Metro Detroit, and we have a taste of some of the happenings.

First, if you want to get a little artsy, check out the Kensington Metropark Art Fair. The annual event not only features more than 100 artists displaying unique pieces of everything from jewelry to wall art, but there will also be food trucks, live music, art activities, and more. The fair runs Saturday through Monday.

Next up, if you want to get your laugh on, while supporting a great cause, there’s a show for you. The non-profit “Youth Are Bigger Than Life” is hosting a comedy show featuring several comics, including friend of “Live in the D” T. Barb. Money raised will go toward scholarships, a back to school drive, and more. The show happens Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagstar Theatre in Pontiac.

The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear speeds into town next week. But, if you can’t wait to hear the roar of the engines, head over to the M1 Concourse the weekend. A Day At The Races will feature Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 and Indy 500 races on multiple giant screens with surround sound. Classic cars will also be on display, as well as Indy 500 historians. It’s happening on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Pontiac.

A party celebrating culture is happening Sunday. The 6th annual Detroit Diaspora Day party will feature DJs spinning Detroit Techno, Afrobeats, and more. A pop-up art gallery, vendors, and panel discussions will also take place. It’s happening Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Eastern in Detroit.
