This year marks a major milestone for a foundation that continues to carry forward the legacy of one of America’s most iconic civil rights leaders. The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation is celebrating its 45th anniversary.
“Our scholarship foundation was founded in 1980, actually with a partnership between the Detroit News as well as with the Detroit Public Schools and Mrs. Parks herself,” said Jim Rosenfeld, president of the Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation.
Since then, the foundation has provided scholarships for students throughout the state of Michigan.
“I feel like I’m literally doing something that she would want me to do to continue her legacy because she put her stamp on this,” said Erica Thedford, who is Rosa Parks’ great niece and a scholarship foundation board member.
While appearing on “Live In The D,” Thedford also spoke of her great aunt’s ”quiet strength."
The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation is holding its 45th Anniversary Gala at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1st at The Henry Ford in Dearborn.
