This week’s Reel Talk lineup has something for everyone: high-octane action with Jason Statham’s new thriller Mutiny, and a comedy getaway with Spa Weekend. Movie reviewer Greg Russell from movieshowplus.com stopped by Live in the D to break down both.
Mutiny follows Statham’s character after he witnesses his billionaire boss’s murder and gets framed for the crime, forcing him aboard a ship on a one-man mission for revenge. According to Russell, it delivers exactly what fans expect.
“It’s going to be a lot of action that’s going on in this film,” Russell said. “It’s a lot of fun. It’s just what you’d expect from a Jason [Statham] movie.”
His verdict: “So go out and enjoy it. It’ll be something fun for this weekend.”
On the other end of the spectrum is Spa Weekend, a comedy starring Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Anna Faris, and Michelle Buteau as a group of friends whose relaxing getaway spirals into chaos.
“Oh, it plays out very well,” Russell said of the ensemble cast.
He noted the film’s universal appeal, especially for anyone who has ever taken a trip with friends. “A good time get-together like with your group of girlfriends or something like that. Or your date - because everybody can identify to this movie.”
Summing up the weekend’s picks, Russell kept it simple: “A lot of action, a lot of fun.”
