DETROIT – A woman in her 40s was injured Monday when a gun was pulled out and shots were fired during an argument between a nearby group of people in Downtown Detroit, police said.
Officials said they responded to the sound of gunshots around 9:50 p.m. Monday just before the start of the 2017 Ford Fireworks on Detroit's riverfront.

Police said the men were arguing outside the Coleman A. Young Building at Woodward and Jefferson avenues when a gun was pulled out.
"We saw a large group of people running from that area, trying to cross Jefferson, actually going through the barricades," Assistant Detroit police Chief Arnold Williams said.
Williams said they saw a woman lying on the ground, so they formed a barrier around her and spoke to witnesses. Police said the woman was a bystander when shots were fired, and she was struck in the hip.
She was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment. Her injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, Williams said.
One weapon was recovered at the scene, Williams said. Two persons of interest were taken into custody after police determined they matched the descriptions given by witnesses, Williams said. One person of interest is an adult and the other is a juvenile.
"You have two people who want to do something stupid, and that's what happened," Williams said. "They started arguing. They decided to end the argument with a weapon, instead of talking it out as individuals, and we had an innocent bystander who wasn't even engaged in the argument who was wounded."
Williams said there were more than enough officers on scene, but they can't always take into account the "knucklehead factor" in these types of incidents.
The shooting is not believed to be connected to a double shooting nearby in Downtown Detroit that happened around the same time.
