The shooting is separate from an incident that happened outside the Coleman A. Young Building near Hart Plaza.
"There's another shooting scene," Detroit police Assistant Chief Arnold Williams said. "This shooting scene, as far as we know has nothing to do with the (Ford Fireworks)."
During the argument, somebody outside the vehicle pulled out a gun and fired shots, police said. One person inside the vehicle was shot in the stomach and another person was grazed by a bullet, police said. The victims are a man and a woman.
Williams said police don't know what the argument was about or how many shots were fired.
The victims drove to the area of Lafayette Boulevard and Shelby Street, where police met them. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said it's unclear who the shooter was in this incident.
