Workers say auto parts plant spread cancer-causing chemicals

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Former workers at a shuttered auto parts plant in Highland Park say they think the plant spread cancer-causing chemicals in the neighborhood surrounding the facility.

The Chrome Craft Plant in Highland Park closed two years ago – but it's owner lists it as "idled."

A formal closure would have required an inspection from the state department of environmental quality.

Workers say chemicals used to coat bumpers leaked into the nearby community – where many children live. The DEQ plans to send a team to the plant to investigate.
