WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating after five people were shot at a skating rink early Friday morning on Highland Road in Waterford Township.
Police were reviewing surveillance video from the township's Rolladium Skating Center where people were shot following a private event. The victims included three women and two men.
Rink co-owner Kurt Anselmi said three gunmen entered the Waterford Township rink just before its 2 a.m. Friday closing time and began firing shots before fleeing.
Police said 18-year-old Robert Lee German, of Pontiac, is considered a person of interest in the shooting.
Anselmi said a fight broke out inside the rink's lobby just before the shooting. The event was a pre-Christmas party for adults. Between 250 and 300 people were at the party. The promoters were required to provide their own security.
"A fight broke out between young ladies, and another fight broke out between some young gentlemen," said Waterford Police Chief Dan McCaw.
The victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
Witnesses were being interviewed by police. No arrests have been made.
McCaw said surveillance video shows the three gunmen seemingly firing random shots.
"The one camera that shows the roller rink floor, you can see the people ducking," McCaw said. " .. and diving as they come in and start shooting through the crowd."

Anselmi said the building has metal detectors, but that the gunmen had entered through exit doors while others were leaving.
"I hope our patrons see this as a random act of violence," the owner said.
