Cause of home fire under investigation

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A family of five escaped a fire at their home early Tuesday morning near Wellington Crescent and Harper Avenue.

Clinton Township firefighters responded to the home just after 2 a.m.

The father was wakened by a smoke detector sounding on the first floor. He ran to alert his son who was sleeping in the basement. He then woke the rest of the family and ushered them outside to safety.

All five family members made it outside without injuries.

Firefighters spent more than three hours battling the blaze that burned through the finished basement.

The floor partially collapsed.
