Recalled Troy mayor running for city council

Janice Daniels on the ballot for November 5 Troy City Council election

TROY, Mich. – Former Troy Mayor Janice Daniels is on the ballot to run for Troy City Council in the November general election.

Daniels was recalled after being criticized for an anti-gay slur and for opposing a largely federally funded transportation center.

She first came under fire in December 2012 with a controversial Facebook post. According to a Facebook account that appeared to belong to Daniels, she wrote: "I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there."

Many consider the post to be anti-gay. The page has been deleted.

At the time Daniels said she'd broken no laws and that voters were more upset with her style than her views.

Daniels was elected in 2011 and recalled in November 2012.
