AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A 33-year-old man from Waterford is in critical condition Friday after an accident on southbound I-75 south of Lapeer Road in Auburn Hills around 6 a.m.

The man was driving a 1997 Ford Escort when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the median wall, which caused it to be disabled in the left lane. The Escort was then stuck by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, a 53-year-old Mount Morris man was treated for minor injuries at McLaren Oakland Hospital.

Earlier witnesses told police this accident was the result of a hit and run with a suspect in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

Investigators have now confirmed that the person in the Sport Trac did not appear to make any contact with the Ford Escort, but they were in the area at the same time of the accident.

Police are still investigating the accident.
